Douglas Hyde Conference 2017

Theme: What Price Culture? - Its community, economic and social values.
When and Where?: 13th – 15th July in Ballaghaderreen. Co. Roscommon

Roscommon County Council is once again delighted to support and deliver this important
annual conference. Arts and culture are intrinsic to our national identity, to our local authority service provisions and to the fabric of people’s lives and the communities we serve.

The value we place on cultural activity and the value it has to our economic and social policies are questions being discussed at this year’s conference. It is therefore important to pause, reflect and facilitate such discussion and the learning opportunities it affords us in planning for the future.

Through the context of the Creative Ireland Programme, the conference is developing it’s collaboration with the Lakes & Legends Festival and the Creative Communities Igniting Change programme with the Roscommon Leader Partnership to present a comprehensive range of events during the conference period in Ballaghaderreen.

This is an opportunity to be “occasionally absent” from our normal daily activity to enter the world of creativity and imagination, and to return with hope and ideas for a better place where creative communities can flourish.
