Welcome to the Coleman Irish Music Centre
The Coleman Traditional Irish Music Centre is located in Gurteen, Co. Sligo. The Centre is a celebration of Irish Music, Culture and Heritage as expressed in the South Sligo Style of music played by Michael Coleman and other musicians of his time.
This Coleman Music Centre is dedicated to ensuring that the tradition of Irish music remains alive and that it continues to be enjoyed by all ages and nationalities. The Centre has three main attractions: the Coleman Cottage and Archive, which remembers the past, the Music School which builds for the future and lastly the Visitors Centre and Theatre which celebrates the tradition.
The Centre is named after Michael Coleman who was from Killavil, Co. Sligo. He was born into a musical family, with his father James a highly respected flute player.
James made his home the focal point for local musicians in the area and his home was often referred to as "Jamseys Coleman's Music Hall". Michael had a great love for fiddle playing and step dancing, he went to all the dances in his locality keen to learn everything there was to know about the musical variation and style in the area. We also have an online store with a collection of CD's, instruments, and tickets to all our concerts. In 2004, the Coleman Centre released Michael Coleman the Enduring Magic, it is the only widely available work by Michael Coleman.
